Buildings face a constant danger: they can burn down. Fire is the enemy of architecture. For architects this can be both a blessing and a curse; after all, following a fire something new must be built. Gereon Krebber sets fire to his sculptures with a purpose. His burned huts, shown in 2010 at the Kunstmuseum Bonn, are followed by burned towers here in Berlin. Whereas a real fire often leaves nothing but rubble and ashes behind, Krebber’s dark totems stand upright.
