VILLA BALTIC KÜHLUNGSBORN // 1ST PRIZE - 24.07.2023

O&O Baukunst is overjoyed about coming in at first place!

The Villa Baltic was built in 1912 on the Baltic Sea promenade in Kühlungsborn.
The task was to develop a viable concept to provide an economic foundation for the renovation and long-term preservation of the historic structure by building a new hotel, including a restaurant and shop.

Two staggered pavilions in the park, connected by a low-slung structure, join the historic villa to form a structural ensemble with great openness and permeability. Counterpointing the neo-baroque villa, the delicate wooden construction of the subsidiary building appears slim and light, in the Baltic Sea coastal tradition of wooden spa architecture, surrounded by a layer of verandas and pergolas.

According to the jury, the Villa Baltic has been integrated into the new ensemble with dignity, its position improved by the qualities of the landscaped outdoor areas.
