RENOVATION OF HUGENOTTENHALLE & NEU-ISENBURG CITY LIBRARY // 3rd Prize - 28.08.2024
The former lighthouse project, built in 1976, will be given a new shine and new focus. A brand new cultural venue is being built on Rosenauplatz. The Hugenottenhalle and the city library will be integrated with an adult education centre, the city archives, city gallery, and music school to become a cultural and educational centre. O&O Baukunst’s competition design was awarded 3rd place.
The ensemble will be expanded and an additional floor added. The music and adult education centre will be on the northwest side. The three building sections will be connected by a central, multi-storey entrance building that acts as a city foyer and horizontal hub on the ground floor. The “living room” on both upper floors acts as an interface between the various uses, with lounge and communication areas and direct access to two terraces.
The green façade design of the Hugenottenhalle turns it into an urban building that radiates out from all sides, doing justice to its importance as an open “third place” for urban residents. In the area of the city library, the existing façade of cantilevered exposed concrete elements will be reinforced and the parapet area planted with greenery.
