QUARTIER AM HUMBOLDTHAIN BERLIN // Laureate - 01.09.2022

Surrounded by historic industrial buildings, the Am Humboldthain development is being built on the former AEG factory premises. The 6.5-hectare inner-city development—planned as a “Berlin future location” and part of the development concept for a production-focused area—is being transformed into an open quarter with a permeable structure. There is potential for all conceivable types of work with ties to research and science, offices, production, and trade.
O&O Baukunst and capattistaubach are among the winners (2nd place). The jointly designed concept impressed the jury “with its clear urban structure that naturally links to the surroundings and yet creates an autonomous quarter. The area is divided into three construction zones with differentiated open spaces that create an exciting sequence of plazas and pathways.”
An ensemble of high-rise buildings looks towards Humboldthain, giving the new industrial district a characteristic image. The skyline along Gustav-Meyer-Allee acts as a cross-section of the different kinds of work and building types. All buildings are designed with two-storey industrial bases to accommodate production areas and some public uses. Office space is planned on the upper floors.

The competition entries will be on exhibit from 31 August to 11 September 2022 on the site of the future development in Philosophia, Gustav-Meyer-Allee 25, Berlin.
