REDESIGN OF THE STADTHAUS SITE IN BONN // 2nd Prize - 29.05.2026

In the competition for the future of the Stadthaus site in Bonn, our design was awarded second prize. The focus was on how a municipal administrative hub of the future might look: the responsible handling of the existing 1970s building stock, new working environments for the city administration, complementary uses for the district, and the urban integration of the city centre and Nordstadt.

Our design renovates the town hall from within the existing structure. The base is streamlined to a clear basic form and given a new, fully accessible ground floor with a central hall. Above it are citizen services, a childcare centre, an adult day care facility, and the council chamber, all beneath a planted deck. The towers are preserved and redesigned for energy performance and a fresh look, complemented by residential units, a sky restaurant, and a roof terrace. Nestled within a new urban forest, an open house for a democratic urban society is being created.


The competition results will be presented to the public on Friday, 12 June 2026, at 11 a.m.
Exhibition in the Stadthaus foyer until 26 June 2026 (Mon.–Thu. 8 a.m.–6 p.m. & Fri. 8 a.m.–1 p.m.).
