    Climate Model District Rothneusiedl Wien // 1st Prize - 04.04.2024


    O&O Baukunst wins the race together with capattistaubach urbane landschaften (landscape design) in a multi-stage competitive dialogue process. The goal: climate-neutral operation and construction! Citizen interests were incorporated into the planning concept.

    A compact city surrounded by a generous and versatile ring of parkland, forest, and urban wilderness. A harmonious combination of urban life and rural expanse will be created in Rothneusiedl, with a lively village square and an immense 3-kilometre-long green ring. This circular open space connects to the surrounding fields, establishing important ecological bridges. The existing wind belts are integrated into the plans, reaching into the future centre of the district. The central town square along the new subway route is the heart of Rothneusiedl, providing a lively meeting place for markets, events, and communication. Schools and kindergartens are arranged along the edges of the ring. (...) The issue of circular economy is comprehensively reflected in the winning design, with the circularity of the buildings being taken into account starting with the very first design sketches. The district is designed as a “5-minute city”. The subway connection supports climate-friendly mobility and connects the new district with Vienna’s city centre.
