DIE GLOCKE // Konzerthaus Bremen - 07.02.2025

»Die Glocke« concert hall is located in Bremen’s city centre, directly adjacent the historic market square and cathedral. The listed building is to be renovated and expanded. Our proposal for the concert hall’s redesign qualified for the second phase.

A compressed modular building houses the three new event spaces. This new layer presents itself to the existing building spaciously, across all its floors, with staircase foyers and air spaces, and connects to the existing foyer areas. This space naturally both separates and yet connects the old and the new on all floors, representing a tangible transition that does not focus on breaking away, but instead on the possibilities of shared use. Each layer of time is kept legible.

The award jury praised the design “for its sensible and almost natural placement of a compact and sculptural building block as a clear new building and the substantial integration of the historical, listed existing structure on the Domsheide.”
